"She's All That" Representation Discussion
Some potential issues with gender representation in this trailer are the typical "jock," "popular girl," and "nerd." The jock is portrayed as overly masculine, and the popular girl is overly sexualized and rude, while the nerdy girl is perceived as ugly until she takes off her glasses. I do not think there is proper representation of these groups in this film, as they feed into stereotypes of teens in high school and how they act towards each other. Based off what is shown, the storyline seems to sort of go along with these stereotypes, but the main guy character tries to get with the "nerdy" girl as a dare/bet, which is very typical in these types of movies. The difference is it seems as if one of the "jocks" sees the "nerdy" girl as beautiful and misunderstood, which does kind of go against the typical storyline.
